If you’ve ever signed up for something a little unhinged and then had everyone ask, “What’s wrong with you?”, you’re in the right place.

WattsWrong started the day I put my name down for the Belgian Dodentocht aka the “March of the Dead.” It’s a 100 km sufferfest that’s technically a walk, but somewhere along the way people decided it’s fun to run, too. I did it. It went… badly. I finished (thank you), but the debrief from friends and family was unanimous: What’s wrong with you? Midlife crisis? I like to think I’m a tad young for that. Or not. Who knows.

Naturally, I followed that up by stacking a few marathons in a row, purely as an experiment to see what my body would do. Same question: What’s wrong with you? This time from my dear wife as well, which, honestly, is fair.

Then I signed up for a full Ironman, the kind that takes 10 hours or more of type-2 fun. And, predictably: What’s wrong with you?

Here’s the thing: along the way I had just as many questions. About training. About fueling. About pacing. About shoes, bikes, wetsuits, watches, and which tiny piece of carbon or rubber might actually make a difference when your legs are threatening a mutiny. Some answers I found the hard way. Some I’m still figuring out.

That’s what this site is about: finding watts, and, more specifically, finding what’s wrong. I’ll share the mistakes, the “a-ha” moments, the sessions that slapped me, and the ones that somehow worked. You’ll get honest, enthusiast-driven notes from the field: triathlon, ultras, the occasional bad idea, and everything in between.

There will also be gear talk. Because this hobby gets expensive fast, and it helps to know where your money is best spent. We’ll do practical, real-world reviews, tested on tired legs, in bad weather, and with the kind of user error only an overexcited amateur can deliver.

If you’re into endurance sports, triathlon, Ironman, or the fine art of seeing how far stubbornness can take you, pull up a chair. Subscribe, comment, heckle kindly. Let’s figure out the right watts, and all the watts wrong, together.

Onwards.
